Intake

At Visual Dreaming, our intake process is guided by the cultural principle of Yindyamarra – a Wiradjuri word that means respect, gentleness, kindness, and patience.

Yindyamarra guides the way we engage with children, families, and community. We don’t rush; instead, we walk alongside each child and family at their pace, creating a safe, respectful space where young people feel valued and understood.

Intake

A Gentle, Relationship-Based Intake Journey

Our intake process is not just about forms and files. It’s about people, relationships, and trust. Here’s what you can expect:
Initial Referral or Enquiry

1. Initial Referral or Enquiry

We welcome referrals from families, schools, community organisations, and service providers. You can complete a referral form or get in touch with us directly to start the conversation.

2. Listening First

After a referral is received, our team will take the time to yarn with you. Whether you’re a parent, carer, or community member. We want to understand the young person’s strengths, needs, and story.

We kindly request that you share all relevant information regarding any risks, concerning behaviors, or specific safety needs. This will enable us to provide the best support for the child and create a safe and appropriate environment for everyone involved. Your honesty at this stage is crucial for building the right supports and setting the young person up for success. Providing us with comprehensive information will help us tailor specialised support and programs for the youth and their families.

Meet and Greet (at Their Pace)

3. Meet and Greet (at Their Pace)

We invite the child and their family to visit, explore the space, and meet our team in a relaxed way. Some children may feel ready straight away; others may need more time. That’s okay. We follow their lead.

4. Gradual Participation

Once trust is built, we gently introduce the young person to our programs and activities. They can begin with small steps—like sharing a yarn, helping in the kitchen, or joining a quiet activity—before moving into full participation.

Ongoing Support

5. Ongoing Support

Our team stays connected and responsive. We walk alongside each child throughout their time with us, making sure they feel safe, supported, and seen.
